ALEX AKAPOHI (1996)

Born in São Paulo (SP), Alex began his classical ballet studies at the age of 3 at Viwa Ballet School under the direction of Viviane Paganini. At 8, he joined the Municipal School of Dance in São Paulo and, at 10, moved to the Mavi Chiachietto Dance Center, where he was first introduced to the Royal Academy of Dance methodology. At 14, he received a full scholarship through the YAGP to complete his studies at the Academie Princesse Grace in Monaco, under the direction of Luca Masala. At 18, he was invited to become a soloist at the Staatstheater Nürnberg, where his work was recognized by the government of Bavaria with the Bavarian Arts Award in 2019. At 23, he was invited to join the renowned Rambert Dance Company in London, under the direction of Benoit Swan Pouffer. Throughout his career, Alex has had the opportunity to perform pieces by renowned choreographers such as Alexander Ekman, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Sidi Larbi Chearkaoui, and others, and has collaborated with dance luminaries including Jean-Christophe Maillot, Wim Vandekeybus, Hofesh Shechter, Christian Spuck, and Imre and Marne Van Opstal, among others. Since 2023, he has been a member of the São Paulo Dance Company (SPCD), continuing to enrich the classical and contemporary dance scene.
